From sashimi where the flavors of the raw tuna are brought to the fore to creative tuna dishes, the Japanes-style creative izakaya restaurant bodai has treated the palates of its visitors with the rich variety of its menu and is located a mere 15-second walk from Kii-Katsuura Station. Their signature dish is the “Medium-fat raw tuna cutlet” (nama-maguro no chu-toro katsu). The tuna cutlet is skillfully fried, providing with every mouthful a crispy texture and an explosion of umami that is unique to medium-fat tuna. The fresh vegetables procured directly from farmers and a variety of seasonal ingredients are also noteworthy. The izakaya is also very popular with women for its creative cuisine that makes use of local Kumano ingredients.

Jyuwarisoba morimotoya

In one corner of the port town is Morimotoya, a restaurant loved by the locals for its raw tuna and soba noodle dishes. We especially recommend the marvelous raw tuna rice bowl (maguro-domburi) which uses plenty of high-quality raw tuna meat scraped from the skin and bones entwined in a sweet mixture of broth and soy sauce.
