The departure point for Fudaraku Tokai

Fudarakusan-ji Temple is known as the departure point for Fudaraku Tokai, which is a type of martyrdom involving Buddhist priests sailing out into the southern sea in search of Kannon’s Southern Pure Land Paradise called Fudarakusan. In July 2004, Fudarakusan-ji was registered by UNESCO as part of the World Heritage Site, “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range “.
